Socodevi and its members
Its Creation: an Institution Created by the Cooperative Movement
In 1985, some of Quebec's cooperatives and mutual societies came together to create an organization that would allow them to share their experience and expertise with cooperative and mutual organizations from developing countries in their development activities. This was the creation of SOCODEVI: Société de coopération pour le développement international, a Canadian nonprofit corporation.
Our mission
Through the involvement of its member institutions and through promotion of the cooperative and mutual movement and other forms of association, SOCODEVI contributes to sustainable development in partner countries with a view to empowering their inhabitants.
Our approach: intercooperation
Direct cooperation between Canadian cooperatives and mutuals and cooperative and associative enterprises in developing countries.
Since our founding, volunteer experts from our institutional members have donated the equivalent of 55 work years to our activities
SOCODEVI was founded by some Quebec cooperatives and mutual societies that actively contribute to cooperation projects. The ongoing commitment of its member institutions is characterized by participation in the Société's management, technical assistance for development projects and education and information activitives for members to favour a better understanding of aspects of sustainable development.
